Chapter 10
“Shut up. You have no right to slander my woman.”
Ethan stepped aside to avoid Wendy’s touch and gently supported me instead. His gaze turned icy as he looked at Nathan.
“Mr. Lu, if you harass my fiancée again, the Pei Group will not hesitate to bankrupt Lu Corp—today.”
A collective gasp rippled through the crowd.
“Who is he? He’s so handsome!”
“That’s the young master of the Pei Group!”
“The Pei Group? They’re powerful enough to shake the entire business world!”
“So it was Mr. Lu who dared to harass someone else’s fiancée!”
Nathan stared at our clasped hands, his expression twisted with disbelief and rage. “Impossible… Olivia and I are still married! She’s my wife!”
“Ex-wife,” Ethan corrected coldly. “I personally delivered the divorce papers to your home. Don’t bother us again.”
Nathan’s face went pale. He turned to me, pleading.
“Olivia… You’re not really going to marry him, are you? Lily still needs me as her father…”
Ethan said nothing, but his grip on my hand tightened. I looked Nathan straight in the eye.
“Nathan, you don’t deserve to be Lily’s father.”
His pupils contracted. He stumbled forward, trying to reach for me.
“Olivia, I was out of my mind back then! If you come back, I’ll cut ties with Wendy—I promise!”
I laughed coldly and flung a folder of documents into his chest. “Can you really cut ties? Those two children of yours were conceived while we were still married.” “At the fundraiser, the cameras caught Wendy spiking your drink. You were right there. You saw it, but still, you took the glass with a smile.”
“Even the hotel room was booked by you in advance. You met her multiple times under the excuse of ‘business trips.’ All the evidence is here.”
Gasps and murmurs erupted from the crowd.
“So they were the cheaters all along!”
“And to think they tried to frame her!”
Nathan stood frozen. “You… knew all along?”
I nodded. “If not for our daughter, do you think I would’ve endured it for this long? My patience only brought me heartbreak.”
I turned to Ethan, my voice trembling.
“Ethan… I always thought I wasn’t good enough for you. I’m just a divorced single mother, carrying the baggage of my past. And you… you’re the future leader of the Pei Group.”.... I inhaled deeply, steadying myself. “But you never gave up. You gave Lily and me unwavering support. You taught me what true love and responsibility mean.” “Thank you for showing me that I deserve happiness too.” I smiled through my tears. “Ethan, I’m willing to marry you.”
Ethan’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed hard. He gently wiped the tears from my eyes.
“You should’ve said this a long time ago.”
“Fine!” Wendy screamed, her face contorted with rage. She suddenly whipped out her phone.
“You think it’s over? Olivia, look who this is!”
My blood ran cold. On the screen, Lily sat bound in a dark, grimy warehouse, her face streaked with tears. A distorted voice snarled:
“Want your daughter back? One hour. Abandoned factory on the outskirts.”
“Using a child? That’s disgusting!”
“Call the police!” people shouted. Sirens wailed in the distance, but Ethan and I were already running.
The black SUV tore through the streets. Ethan gripped my hand tightly.
“Trust me. Lily will be fine.” I nodded through tears.
We kicked down the rusted gate of the factory. Inside, three men in skull masks stood waiting, metal rods slick with blood. I almost fainted when I saw Lily huddled in a corner.
“Mommy…” she called weakly.
“Let her go! I’ll pay whatever ransom you want!” Ethan’s voice quaked with fury.
The leader sneered. “We’re not here for money, Young Master Pei. We want your life!” He pressed a remote. Ethan acted in a flash—shielding Lily and me with his body as the explosion erupted. Blood bloomed across his back.
“Ethan!” I screamed.
Three months passed before the full truth emerged. The mastermind behind the kidnapping was an old enemy of the Pei family. He had bribed prison officials to release Wendy and three death row inmates. Mr. Pei acted swiftly, ensuring justice and protecting the family name.
Ethan remained in a coma. Every day, I fed him porridge, spoon by spoon. I talked to him as if he could hear me, telling him about Lily, who had started school and brought home new friends—but always made time to visit him first.
One day, as Lily sobbed beside his bed, her tiny voice breaking:
“Big Brother Ethan… when you wake up, can we go to the amusement park? I saved you strawberry cake…”
I turned away to wipe my tears—then I heard it. A faint sound.
The monitor beeped. Ethan’s fingers twitched. “Don’t cry…” he rasped. It was barely audible, but it shattered the dam in my heart.
The doctors rushed in. I called Mr. Pei.
“He’s awake?” the old man asked, voice trembling.
“I’m on my way.”
Fifteen minutes later, Mr. Pei arrived, leaning on his cane. He grasped Ethan’s hand and turned to me with warmth. “Thank you, my dear. For everything.”
My worries melted away.
Suddenly, a commotion echoed through the hospital hallway. Nathan stumbled in, reeking of alcohol, clutching a faded photo.
“Olivia! You can’t marry him!” Security tried to stop him.
“Lu Corp was built by us! You can’t just hand it over to the Pei family!”
Mr. Pei gestured. His men swiftly removed Nathan.
Once the chaos cleared, Mr. Pei said gently, “Before falling unconscious, this rascal kept mumbling about wanting to marry you.”
Ethan took my hand. “While I was in a coma, I dreamed you walked toward me in a wedding dress.”
“Alright,” I whispered. “But only once you’re fully recovered.”
Lily jumped with joy. “Yay! I’m going to have a new daddy!”

Preparations swept through the Pei household. It was a grand affair—flowers, chandeliers, champagne fountains.
Lily scattered petals down the aisle ahead of us. I walked beside Ethan, his arm steady and warm. Nathan’s seat remained empty.
After the media exposed the truth, Lu Corp crumbled. Ethan ensured Nathan’s downfall, and Wendy was reimprisoned on a remote island. Her children were sent to an orphanage. I felt nothing. My pain had faded.
At the altar, Ethan slipped a ring onto my finger.
“My wife, I will protect you and our daughter forever. We will be the happiest family.”
Sunlight streamed through the chapel windows as we kissed, sealing our vows in golden light.
In the distance, Old Mr. Pei lifted Lily high into the air, both of them laughing. In that moment, I knew....
I had finally found happiness. And the days ahead would be filled with nothing but love and laughter.
The END!
