My Best Friend of Ten Years Betrayed Me

This betrayer TLS was sent to my inbox, she's seeking for advice.

I never thought I’d have to question who my real friends are, but here I am. I’m 23 and just started my first job, and something happened recently that’s left me feeling completely betrayed.

I discovered that my best friend of ten years has been talking behind my back to people I trusted. I didn’t hear it from someone else—I accidentally saw messages on social media where she was spreading things about me that weren’t true. I feel like everything I believed about our friendship was a lie.

I don’t know whether I should confront her directly, cut her off completely, or just try to ignore it. Part of me wants to ask her why she did it, but another part is scared that confronting her will make things worse. I’ve been replaying our entire friendship in my head, trying to figure out if I ever really knew her.

I’m torn and confused. I want to protect myself and move on, but I don’t want to overreact. I really need advice on what to do next.

What would you do if you were in her shoes? Would you confront your friend, distance yourself, or try to forgive? Share your advice below, she’s looking for guidance on how to handle this situation.
