Chapter 9

Callum spent the whole night looking for Harper, turning Strathaven upside down. But every single one of his men came back empty-handed. "Keep looking. First one to bring me Ms. Vaughn gets 50 million dollars." Just one night was enough to wear him down. His eyes were bloodshot, his jaw covered in dark stubble, and he looked utterly drained. After his men left, he slapped himself hard across the face. What possessed him to go along with Sienna's plan?

Sienna planned to keep Harper locked up to put her in her place, then bring her back in time for the wedding. After the wedding , Sienna would have people spread the rumor that Harper had mysteriously disappeared the night before. Being a conservative , Olivia would despise Harper even more, and Sienna's spot in the family would be set. Callum was initially opposed to Sienna's scheme. Harper's reputation was already bad enough, so he didn't want to throw her back in the spotlight.

He tried to hold his ground, but Sienna wouldn't let up. When she mentioned their child, he caved in. ---- He figured Harper's name was already in the mud, so he might as well let Sienna blow off some steam. He would take care of Harper afterward. People would move on eventually. He would give her a lifetime of wealth and comfort to make up for it. But watching Harper get excited for the wedding made Callum's heart sink.

He hated himself for what he had allowed to happen and didn't want her to go through something like that right before their big day. He wanted her to have a perfect wedding, so he warned Sienna many times not to lay a finger on her. But Sienna still went behind his back and even used his phone to lure Harper out. What if Harper thought he was behind it all? What if she was completely heartbroken by him? Just thinking about it made Callum tremble. A chill ran down his spine.

"Bring me Sienna now." Right after Harper went missing, he had Sienna detained. She kept denying that she had abducted Harper and tried to sweet-talk her way out like nothing happened. Callum didn't hold back and seized the Prescott family's business deals in front of Sienna, then she finally admitted it. But she had already lost contact with the ones who took Harper. The longer he thought about it, the darker his expression got.

Just then, one of his men came in and reported , ''We have traced Ms. Vaughn's last known location to the beach, Mr. Colter." After hearing that, Callum didn't spare Sienna another glance and bolted for the beach. When he stared out at the endless sea, his vision blurred , and he nearly collapsed. His voice was trembling . 'Keep looking. Don't stop until you find her." Rescue teams swarmed the coast. He geared up and dove into the water himself.

Callum searched the area again and again, but there was still no sign of Harper. His emotions were a mess. He was desperate to find her, but the idea of finding her in the sea scared him to death. He pushed himself for another 24 hours searching for her. By dawn, he couldn't hold on any longer and passed out. His assistant rushed him back to the bedroom. He had no idea how long he had been out.

When he opened his eyes, he saw the familiar decor and realized he was in the room he had prepared for their wedding night. He subconsciously reached out to hold the person behind him. "Harper." ---- But Callum's hand touched nothing but cold sheets. That was all it took to remind him that Harper was still missing , and he still hadn't brought her home. His gaze turned sharp as he swiftly got out of bed. When he stepped into the living room, he saw Olivia already waiting for him.

She passed him a box as he walked in. "Harper couldn't take it anymore and left on her own. Don't take it out on Sienna." He took the box. The first thing he saw was the gilded wedding contract he had given to Harper. It had been lovingly framed and laid right at the top. For a moment, he couldn't breathe. If he hadn't let his guard down, she wouldn't be missing. He ran his fingers over their names on the wedding contract, then spotted some torn fabric inside the box.

Callum narrowed his eyes, and it took him a long time to realize those were the baby clothes Harper had made. Unfortunately, Sienna had destroyed them. His hands trembled as he picked up the scraps of fabric. A folded piece of paper slipped out. When he looked closely, it was a medical report stating she had lost her uterus. He was stunned at that moment. Harper had actually found out that she had lost her uterus. Did she know it was he who made it happen?
