Love Scatters, Hearts Break

Love Scatters, Hearts Break

Chapter 15

Jessica completely misread Samuel’s reaction. Giggling, she threw herself at him and cooed, “Doesn’t that make it even more thrilling? Samuel, we...Hey! What are you doing?”

She was halfway through her sentence when Samuel roughly tore the nightgown off her. He couldn't take it anymore. Ignoring her shrieks of protest, he yanked the gown from her and flung it to the floor. Through it all, he didn’t even look at her properly—just utter disgust in his eyes.

The household staff quickly scattered. They were here to work, not to witness this kind of chaos.

Jessica was startled at first, but once she realized they were alone, she assumed the worst—yet again. Smiling coyly, she purred, “I know what’s on your mind. Why were you so rough, though?” She slithered back into his arms, making no effort to cover herself. Their relationship had always been physical—superficial. She never invested real feelings into it, so she didn’t feel shame. As long as she could satisfy his desires, she believed she could win. In her mind, she was about to secure her place as his wife, living the wealthy life she’d always dreamed of.

But Samuel immediately shoved her away.

“You have no shame! You’re not worthy of wearing her clothes—or touching her things!” he shouted, eyes burning with rage. He looked at her like she was filth.

Jessica had walked into that house convinced she was about to win. She came dressed to seduce, even putting on one of Emily’s nightgowns, with only lingerie underneath. She was ready to push for a divorce and seal her spot beside Samuel.

“Why are you calling me shameless?” she asked, pale and trembling. “Haven’t you always liked this side of me?”

She reached to pick up the discarded nightgown, but Samuel stopped her. His gaze turned glacial.

“If you had even an ounce of decency, you wouldn’t have sent those messages to Emily. You wouldn’t have taken those disgusting photos of us behind my back! I told you from the beginning—don’t parade yourself in front of her! She left because of *you*! Do you realize that?”

He pushed all the blame onto Jessica, desperate to protect himself from the weight of his own guilt.

Jessica saw that he’d found out. But instead of admitting to it, she played dumb.

“What are you talking about? Why would I send anything to Emily? I’ve been *hiding* from her this whole time! Did someone tip her off?”

She knew there was no concrete proof unless Samuel saw the messages himself. And she was convinced that even if Emily knew about the affair, she’d still walk away—no matter what.

“You’re still lying to me!” Samuel nearly spat the words. “I was a fool to ever indulge you. You were just a toy. A cheap distraction. And you dared to dream of being my wife? You’re not even fit to lick the ground Emily walked on!”

Unable to find Emily and overcome with guilt, Samuel poured all his anger onto Jessica. In his eyes, she was the root of it all. He couldn’t accept his own faults—so he made her the scapegoat of his predicament of losing his wife.

It was the first time Jessica had seen this terrifying side of Samuel. But she still clung to hope. If she admitted to everything now, she’d lose *everything*. She couldn’t let that happen.

Covering herself with her arms, she cried, “Emily must’ve faked those messages to frame me!”

She tried to escape upstairs to change, but Samuel grabbed her and yanked her back.

“Samuel! What are you doing?!” she screamed in panic.

He didn’t respond. He simply pulled out his phone, still using Emily’s SIM card. On the screen were the very same indecent pictures and vile messages Jessica had sent.

She hadn’t expected Emily to ever show them to him. Panicking, she blurted, “Huh? Why didn’t she just ask you for a divorce instead?” The second those words left her lips, she realized her mistake—and quickly tried to recover. “I—I didn’t mean to lie to you! I was just scared you’d be mad! Please, Samuel, forgive me just this once! I did it out of love for you. If I didn’t love you so much, I would’ve never taken such a huge risk—”

But Samuel cut her off with a bitter laugh.

“Love me? Is it really *me* you love? Or is it the money and the title that comes with being my wife? You know the answer as well as I do.”

Now, regret swallowed him whole. He had pushed Emily—the only woman he truly loved—out of his life for someone like Jessica. Samuel had seen right through her. But Jessica wasn’t ready to give up. Not after getting this close to everything she’d ever wanted.

Grabbing the hem of his shirt, she sobbed, “Time reveals all, doesn’t it? After all this time, can’t you see that my feelings are real? I did everything for you! You think Emily loved you? If she really did, wouldn’t she have gotten jealous? But she didn’t! Not once did she respond to me! I only did it to open your eyes!” Her voice trembled, eyes pleading. “If I didn’t show you her true colors, you’d never see them! What if she leaked those pictures online? What if—”

“**Shut up!**” Samuel roared. He didn’t fall for her lies anymore.
