Love Scatters, Hearts Break

Love Scatters, Hearts Break

Chapter 17

One of the bystanders, Irene Dison, had recently divorced her husband after catching him cheating. Her bitterness extended to all homewreckers. She stepped in front of Jessica, blocking her path and shouting, “A young woman like you could’ve done anything with your life! Why choose to be a homewrecker and destroy someone else’s marriage, you filthy seductress?”

Faced with the stranger's harsh insults, Jessica didn't back down. She snapped, “Hey, old lady. With a face like yours, I bet you couldn’t seduce anyone even if you tried. You call me a seductress? Please. Let me guess—your husband left because you weren’t good enough to make him stay, huh?”

“Hah! At least I wasn’t thrown out half-naked like trash!” Irene spat, fuming with rage. She lunged forward and slapped Jessica hard across the face.

Instantly, chaos erupted.

Irene lived nearby and quickly rallied a group of her friends to “teach that shameless woman a lesson.” The crowd of onlookers, already thick, grew even larger. People shouted for others to come and witness the spectacle.

The commotion was so loud it could be heard from inside the villa—but Samuel didn’t react. He remained deep in thought, oblivious to the chaos unfolding outside.

Jessica, no matter how sharp-tongued and aggressive, couldn’t stand up against a mob of angry residents. Tears welled in her eyes, but not out of guilt—out of sheer frustration. She tried to flee, but in the crowd, a pervert reached out to grope her.

“Get away from me! Don’t touch me!” she screamed. Realizing she couldn’t count on the heartless Samuel to help her, Jessica desperately turned to the men in the crowd. She had always relied on her looks and manipulation to get her way. It never occurred to her that she might have to get out of this mess on her own.

With tears in her eyes and a pitiful expression, she cried out, “If anyone helps me, I’ll sleep with you—I swear…”

A few men, already harboring vile intentions, immediately stepped forward and began taking off their jackets. But just as quickly, their friends pulled them back.

“Are you crazy? You really want to mess with someone like that?”

“If a girl can offer herself up that easily, she’s probably been with a hundred men already.”

“Maybe her sugar daddy dumped her after she caught something…”

“Or maybe she’s just doing this out of spite. Either way, we should call the police.”

That suggestion sobered up the entire crowd. Everyone, including the creeps from earlier, took a step back from her. Even Irene wiped her hands off in disgust, as if Jessica had contaminated her.

For the first time, Jessica realized her charms had become a curse. People who once desired her now looked at her with revulsion.

Meanwhile, the gates to Samuel’s villa remained firmly shut. There was no hope of rescue.

Covering herself with her arms, Jessica bolted down the street—but fate wasn’t done with her yet. A stray dog spotted her and began barking furiously. Jessica shrieked and took off running. The dog, delighted by the chase, followed her into a narrow alley. She ran blindly, turning down smaller and smaller streets until the dog finally gave up. Out of breath, filthy, and alone, she looked around and realized she had no idea where she was. Her clothes and phone were still at the villa. She had no way to contact anyone. No money. No clue where to go. The place she’d ended up in was practically abandoned—run-down buildings, shattered windows, rusted gates. Not even the homeless dared stay there. Panicked, she huddled in a corner, hugging her knees and whispering, “Help… anyone?” Only the cold wind answered.

That night, Jessica wandered the city barefoot and half-dressed, until, by sheer luck, a passerby took pity on her and called the police. If not for that stranger, she might’ve walked until morning—or worse.

But this was only the beginning of her downfall.

Before she could even return home, a termination letter from her job had already arrived. Then came the real nightmare: she went viral. Clips of her getting tossed out, half-naked and screaming, spread across the internet like wildfire. Her name was dragged through the mud. Her face became a meme. She couldn’t step outside without hearing whispers, jeers, and insults.

Meanwhile, Samuel never gave her a second thought. True to his word, after throwing her out, he erased her from his life. He sat on the couch all night, unmoving, until morning came and Luke walked in.

“Mr. Porter,” Luke said. “Someone claims they saw Mrs. Porter at the airport boarding a plane.”

Samuel looked up, stunned. “That can’t be. I checked the passenger lists—her name wasn’t there.”

“Maybe the witness got it wrong. Could’ve been someone who looked like her. I’ll search elsewhere—”

“Wait. Come here.” Samuel sat forward. “We have to chase down every lead. Which flight did they say she was on?”

“Apparently one to Verusa.”

“Book me a ticket. Now.” Samuel leapt to his feet, energized for the first time in days. He grabbed his passport and walked out—still wearing yesterday’s clothes.
