shattered Vows, Shining Crown

Chapter 35: The Declaration Heard Across the Crown Table

The Crown Table hall was buzzing that night. Every seat filled, every camera rolling, every voice sharpened with expectation. Jason’s fabricated scandal was the talk of the city, and for many, this meeting was where Amara would either crumble… or be crowned a fraud.

Jason sat near the head, smug, adjusting his cufflinks as though he already owned the moment.

Then the doors opened.

Amara walked in. Not in defeat — but draped in ivory silk, her chin raised like royalty. Darius followed closely, silent but resolute, his presence alone declaring allegiance.

When she reached the mic, the whispers turned into a hush.

Her voice rang out, steady and unbroken.
“Let me begin where Jason ended — with lies.
I stand here accused of falsifying my degree, of manipulating men, of seduction and schemes. I stand here as their favorite villain in headlines designed to sell shame.”

She paused, scanning faces that shifted uneasily under her gaze.

“But what the papers will never print is this — I fought for my place at this table. I bled for it. I studied for it. And while men tried to use my voice, I refused to be silent. So here’s my declaration: You don’t have to like me. You don’t even have to clap for me. But you will not erase me.”

The room erupted in murmurs. Jason shifted uncomfortably, his smile flickering.

Amara raised the newspaper Jason had planted against her, then tore it in half with her bare hands.
“Truth doesn’t need permission to speak. And tonight, I speak mine.”

For a moment, silence. Then one clap. Then another. Until the room thundered with applause — not unanimous, but powerful enough to drown Jason’s smirk into dust.

As she stepped back, Darius whispered, “You didn’t just defend yourself, Amara. You declared war.”

She allowed the faintest smile. “Good. Because I don’t fold."
