Chapter 36: Jason’s Desperate Counterattack
The applause from Amara’s declaration hadn’t even faded before Jason made his move.
The very next morning, news broke — not another rumor, but a lawsuit.
Filed under his name, Jason accused Amara of embezzlement, claiming she had siphoned funds from the boutique and from Crown Table contributions to fuel her rise. The headlines screamed:
“From Darling to Defendant: Amara Faces Fraud Charges.”
The city reeled. Reporters camped outside her boutique, customers vanished, and even some members of the Crown Table whispered doubts.
When Amara read the charges, her jaw tightened. For the first time, even Darius felt her hand tremble slightly in his.
“He’s cornered me,” she admitted quietly.
But Darius shook his head.
“No, Amara. He’s cornered himself. This is desperation. And desperate men leave evidence behind.”
They began planning their counterstrike — digging into Jason’s finances, tracing his backroom deals. If he wanted war in the courts, Amara would give him one.
That night, however, she stood alone at her boutique window, staring at the flashing cameras outside.
Jason had escalated the game, but she refused to let fear be her undoing.
She whispered to herself, firm and unshaken:
“You want to break me, Jason? Then you’ll have to destroy yourself in the process.”

And as she turned away, a thought took root — maybe this wasn’t just about survival anymore. Maybe it was about exposing Jason for everything he truly was.
