Chapter 15
Even while throwing jabs, Jace still carried himself like a gentleman. When he called out "fiancee", it caught Callum and Harper off guard. Harper instinctively glanced up at Jace, and he subtly shook his head at her. She was momentarily taken aback before realizing his intention. He was helping her get away from Callum. A wave of warmth washed over her, and she flashed Jace a grateful smile. But all Callum felt was a sharp pang of jealousy. Callum grabbed Jace by the collar.
"Who are you calling your fiancée?" Jace didn't flinch, but there was something provoking in his stare. "Are you sure you want to do this here?" Callum knew where Jace's confidence came from. His bodyguards were already in position, and the tourist spot had plenty of police on patrol. Getting physical with Jace here and now would only backfire on Callum. But walking away without doing anything would burn his pride. Both men-equally striking and imposing -faced off in silence.
Tension crackled between them. In the end, Callum stepped back and let go of Jace. After calming down, he started doubting the idea of Harper falling for someone else so fast. She must have gotten the wrong idea. That was why she walked away. Callum was convinced that Harper would come back to him after he explained everything. He managed a smile and quickly explained , "I know you've been through hell, Harper. I've made it right.
Whether it was Sienna or the Colters, every last one of them paid for what they did to you-"" Harper nonchalantly interrupted , "What about you?" Callum was stunned for a moment before asking , " What do you mean?" She grinned. "Did you get what you deserved ? After all, you hurt me the most. Or do you think my death was the biggest payback you could get?" He groaned in agony. "Isn't that enough?

Do you have any idea what kind of hell I've been living in since I thought you died, Harper?" She smirked in contempt. "Why didn't you follow me to the grave? Since it has come to this, I might as well say it. 1 faked my own death and left those things in the villa on purpose. "honestly thought you would die for me, Callum. But it turns out you were off sightseeing, as if nothing had ---- happened. I guess that's what your love for me amounts to." He was stupefied.
His head was spinning, and she had hit him with more than he could process. Just then, Harper continued, ''Face it, Callum. You never loved me that much. Don't show your face around me again. You make me sick." She turned and walked away without looking back. Callum snapped out of it and tried to go after her, but Jace's bodyguards stepped in and didn't let him through. He stopped in his tracks and finally wrapped his head around what she had told him.
She had staged her death and wanted him to die for her. He clenched his fists, burning with rage for being fooled. He watched her walk away and pulled the ash pendant from his chest before tossing it into the trash. Everything was all a lie. Callum hit the bar, got himself a private room, and drank like he didn't give a damn. Ever since Harper "died", he had been drowning in grief, itching to numb his feelings with alcohol. But he held back to seek revenge for her.
After getting revenge, he just wanted to make her dreams come true. He didn't have time to waste on getting drunk. Who would have thought she had faked her death? Worst of all, she went off on him for not following her into death and called him disgusting. He was torn between anger and heartbreak. He slammed the bottle against the table, shattering it as he panted heavily. He didn't get why she had to fake her death and lie to him. Why did she want him dead?
Did she seriously hate him that much? Callum felt like he was breaking inside. He tipped his head back and downed another bottle, trying to drown it all out with alcohol. He drank for quite some time. Then, he suddenly poured the drink over his head, and everything became clear to him. Harper had every right to hate him, and he owed her that much. He was the one who chased her down, put her in the spotlight, and failed to protect her. But it didn't matter.
As long as Harper was alive, they still had all the time in the world. He was dead set on proving to her that he would spend the rest of his life making it up to her.
