Dadabhai calls Jhanak, asking her to give him his snuffbox. Jhanak refuses, reminding him that snuff is harmful to health. Dadabhai warns her not to be oversmart and insists she hand it over. Jhanak replies that she will only give it to him if Doctor Surjeet advises so. She explains that Surjeet mentioned snuff is bad for the heart, and even Tanushri agreed. Both Surjeet and Tanushri are surprised, wondering when this conversation took place. Indumati adds that snuff is indeed unhealthy.
Dadabhai argues that he cannot tolerate her defiance and again demands the snuffbox. Jhanak confidently says she isn’t even afraid of Rishi, so why should she fear him? She reminds Dadabhai that elders should set an example for children and take care of their own health. Dadabhai reluctantly asks her to give it to him, but Jhanak sets a condition.
Surprised, Dadabhai listens as Jhanak takes the cigarette from the snuffbox and announces she will smoke it. Indumati questions where she got it from, and Kaju explains that it’s her father’s cigarette, leaving everyone shocked. Jhanak points out that if elders use snuff and cigarettes, children may follow suit. Tanushri warns her not to smoke. Dadabhai, realizing the point, throws the snuffbox away and vows never to use snuff again. Jhanak appreciates his decision and goes inside to prepare tea for him.
In the village, Parashar tells Prakash that he can do everything except cook. Sakhi arrives, commenting on the aroma of the food. Parashar asks why she came, and Sakhi requests to speak with him alone. She dismisses Prakash and questions Parashar about when he will stop hurting Nutan. She reminds him that Nutan respects him greatly and points out that while he may love her, he doesn’t understand her pain. Parashar promises to convince Nutan, and Sakhi leaves.
Back at home, Jhanak serves tea to Rishi’s family members. Indumati asks if Jhanak made it, and she credits Putul. She serves a large glass to Dadabhai.
Indumati informs everyone that a cook has been hired. Dadabhai praises the cook’s skill and asks Abhimanyu to bring the cook as soon as possible. Indumati adds that the cook should accompany him to the market. Hearing this, Jhanak feels sad, wondering if she will have no work left. Dadabhai reassures her that the cook is mature and respectful. Jhanak runs inside, feeling dejected. Dadabhai remarks that it was amusing, while Abhimanyu feels they may have gone too far. Tanushri wonders if Jhanak misunderstood their joke.
Later, Jhanak returns the snuffbox to Dadabhai by throwing it near him. Indumati scolds her for appearing disrespectful. Jhanak cries, explaining that she only forced Dadabhai to quit snuff because she was concerned about his health. She adds that with the cook being hired, she feels she is no longer considered part of the family, leaving her heartbroken.
Precap: Rishi tells Jhanak that while she may fool his family, she cannot fool him. He accuses her of trying to manipulate him again and asks her to end their relationship by talking to her village people, as he wants freedom from their relationship. Jhanak is left in tears.
